Monsoon & Your Inverter: Safety and Care in Delhi's Rains
Humidity, water and surges test your backup in the rains — here's how to keep it safe.
Delhi's monsoon brings more power cuts and harder conditions for your backup — damp, waterlogging and storm surges all take a toll. A few precautions keep everything safe and working when you need it most.
Keep it dry and off the floor
Water on the floor and a battery don't mix. Keep the inverter and battery raised — a trolley is ideal — in a dry, ventilated spot, well away from any area that can waterlog during heavy rain.
Watch for corrosion and damp
High humidity speeds up terminal corrosion and can cause damp-related tripping. Check that terminals are clean and tight, and that the area around the setup stays dry.
Protect against storm surges
Lightning and grid switching during storms can send surges down the line. A stabilizer or spike guard helps, and in a severe electrical storm it's sensible to unplug very sensitive electronics.
Expect more (and longer) cuts
Storms cause outages, so go into the monsoon with a healthy battery. If your backup was already weak in summer, get it checked before the rains — you'll lean on it more.
Quick monsoon checklist
- Battery and inverter raised, dry and ventilated
- Terminals clean, tight and corrosion-free
- Stabilizer / spike protection in place
- Battery tested and healthy before peak monsoon

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe to use an inverter during a thunderstorm?
Generally yes, but protect against surges with a stabilizer or spike guard, and in a severe electrical storm unplug very sensitive electronics as a precaution.
Why does my inverter trip after heavy rain?
Usually a damp point tripping the MCB, or a surge — not the inverter itself. Keep the setup dry and raised; if it keeps happening, get it checked on-site.
